To clone a fob, simply hold it up to the copier and press the “read” button. Once you do this, you'll usually hear a beep. Then, hold the new fob up to the copier and press the “write” button. In addition to creating a new key fob, people can also clone the fob and create a sticker that acts as a key fob.

Insert the key into the ignition, and turn it to the on position. Don't turn on the engine, only the electronics. Leave the key in this position for 10 minutes and 30 seconds, and then turn it off. Turn the key back on, and wait for additional 10 minutes and 30 seconds before turning it off again.

Keys are typically made of brass or a nickel-brass mixture, and the pins in a lock are also made of brass.

Newer vehicles often use car key fob technology, while older, standalone automotive keys are usually made with steel, brass or a mixture of nickel and brass.
